Book Clubs will replace Outside Reading this quarter.
When we read a piece of literature, be it a masterpiece or just a fun piece of pulp fiction, what we look for as readers is a lesson, moral, or other form of information that reveals something to the reader about life and the human condition. When we do this work together in small groups, we learn a great deal from our peers and their life experiences through our discussions. For this reason, you will participate in Book Clubs.
1. You will choose your own groups and your own books . If there are not enough copies in the library of the book that your group wants to read, you have two choices: One, choose a new book. Two, find the book at the bookstore or the public library. Mrs. Stewart is not responsible for getting you the copies that you need. You should all go together to choose a book so that you will know if there are enough copies.You need to choose your groups and books by Friday, November 12th. Use your study hall, before school, or after school to get this done!You will need to give me your group members and book title by the start of class on Tuesday.
2.You will complete the book by Tuesday, December 7th.If you finish before the date, choose another book to read independently. You do not need to choose another book as a group while you wait for the due date. You may return your book club book to the library when you finish, but one person should keep their book to use for the project. Decide amongst yourselves who this will be.
3. You will receive a group project on Tuesday, December 7th and will have some class time to complete it.
4. THIS IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT: You are required to hold a discussion about the book on this wikipage.I do not have a minimum number of times that you must make a comment, but I expect you to put forth an appropriate amount of effort. Your discussion is part of your overall grade on this round of book clubs. This is not a place for you to chat about your school day or your weekend. I will read each discussion board and make my own comments until the due date. If you finish before the others, you can still post anddo not tell them the ending.

How do you feel connected to a character? Have you had similar or different experiences? Share these connections or experiences.
What is the theme of this novel? What does the author want you to learn from this story?
What's going on in a certain section? I'm confused about....
Who is your favorite character? Why?

Why do you think a certain character did a certain thing?
Interesting quote. What do you think it means?
